APG has won the New Private Markets Global Award in the category Limited Partner of the Year in Impact Investing. According to the jury report, APG “made significant headway during 2025 in advancing its impact investment program and contributing to the wider market.”

In a podcast by New Private Markets, Patrick Kanters, CIO Private Investments at APG, reflected on receiving the award. “It’s great to see that our progress in impact investing is being recognized. It’s great for our teams that their work is being noticed, and having the spotlight on us will hopefully also create new opportunities, as more people know where to find us.”

Help move the industry forward

Asked about APG’s approach to impact investing, Kanters explained in the podcast: “We believe it is possible to generate strong financial returns while also achieving positive environmental and social outcomes. At the same time, for this to work properly, the industry would greatly benefit from clearer standards, as there is still no universally accepted definition of impact.”

He continued: “Historically, we have often taken a leading role in setting standards in responsible investing and governance to help move the industry forward. This is not just about investing on behalf of our pension fund client ABP, but also about enabling others to join that movement.”

According to Kanters, greater alignment on standards and harmonized definitions also supports more effective discussions with general partners and helps mobilize the industry as a whole. “The sheer size of our assets under management puts us in a position to help set standards together with others, and to play an active role in industry bodies such as GRESB.”
